Alexa is a junior volunteer. She recently presented a check and dog food & treats to Guinnette Peebles, the founder and director of Poodle Rescue of Houston. Besides volunteering to groom rescue dogs, Alexa found another way to help. For her 14th birthday, she asked her friends to donate money & dogfood or supplies to Poodle Rescue instead of giving her gifts.

HARRIET WITH EENIE, MEENIE, MINIE and MOE
This girl came from Harris County as a quarantined bite case. After her 10 day stay the ownersdid not pick her up. Poodle Rescue picked her up and realized she was pregnant and very sick. We took her directly to the animal hospital. They put her in isolation and ran a distemper test and a canine influenza test. Both were negative. After about five days of antibiotics and fluids she wasreleased. She is well now and delivered four healthy puppies on 11-18-11. Three girls and a boy. We have named the mother Harriet. The puppies are named EENIE, MEENIE, MINIE and MOE.
Poodle Rescue to the rescue of Popeye
Poodle Rescue picked this poodle up on November 14th from BARC, after being contacted by the city that he could leave early on a medical release. The City of Houston or BARC contacted our rescue soon after they received and evaluated Popeye's urgent condition. We were able to rescue the poodle quickly on an early release to attend to his urgent needs. We wasted no time getting him groomed and ready for surgery.
Popeye Receiving Surgery
Dr. Thurston removed his eye and sutured the socket closed. My groomer named him ''Popeye''.
Most often the breed rescues are called in to help the dogs that need immediate or long term treatment.
Popeye After Surgery and Onto the Road to Recovery
We picked Popeye up, groomed him and completed his eye surgery the same day. It's great when the shelters work well with the rescue groups. It is as common for rescue groups to pull medically needy shelter dogs as it is for owners to surrender
their needy dogs to rescue. That's why (as a non-profit charity) we need your support to help with our mission. We also need good forever homes for these wonderfully deserving dogs. Let’s all keep up the good work
Poodle Rescue just received these two beautiful standard poodle pups. They need a forever and loving home. Please consider coming and adopting these two sweethearts that deserve a home.
Boy Danny is looking better every day. He is a very appreciative happy puppy.
He stays very clean in his kennel. He waits to go outside and is ready for a home. Please call us at 281-477-3297 for inquiries. If you cannot adopt please consider donations and volunteer. Go to our website to donate at http://www.poodlerescueofhouston.com/
This little tike was retrieved from Montgomery County. He is a young puppy with sarcoptic mange. He is on a fast track to recovery with sulpher dips and revolution. We can't be sure whether he is a poodle or not but when they need help as bad as this little guy did but ''who cares''. We named him ''Boy Danny'', because we have another poodle in the program already named ''Danny Boy''. This puppy will get well and be cute very soon. Please come visit Poodle Rescue. Adopt, donate or volunteer. We have 125 hopeless poodle type dogs currently at our shelter. Thank You Everyone.
Karin Before Poodle Rescue
This poodle was listed as a male stray on the shelter web site. Turns out he is a she. In fact she is a beautifully structured, red toy poodle with an incredible personality.Today she was groomed and entered into Poodle Rescue of Houston's adoption program.
Karin After Being Rescued from Poodle Rescue
PRH founder Guinnette says '' It is so rewarding to transform a neglected poodle into a prince or princess in a day. It's a delightful hobby at times''. PRH staff named her, ''Karin'' after a friend. Although Karin is available for adoptionshe must serve a minimum two weeks in quarantine to help ensure her health after her long ordeal of neglect.
Sugar Sugar
Before and after photos of the rescue of Sugar Sugar from BARC. The photo on the top left is from the matted pelt that the tech at BARC shaved off the dog. The tech named her Sugar. We agreed so we named her Sugar-Sugar. Poodle Rescue picked her up this morning and completed her groom. WOW what a remarkable difference. This is the sweetest little girl I have ever hugged.
Last but not least we picked up a little guy that has dry eye.We named him Jimbo he may need eye drops forever OR we might be able to fix the eyes. We'll probable take him to the Animal eye specialist Dr. Herman and remedy his dry eye problem. There is a cause and if we can get to the root of the problem and solve it then he will be more adoptable.
We took in a darling terrier that was so ugly he was actually cute. The better you get to know him the cuter he became. We named him Scrappy Doo because my unimaginable staff runs out of names. He is only six months old. Truly precious!
The dogs continue to flow in. We got Loo Loo from a citizen that found her as a stray. She has mange for sure. We will learn more later.
Nugget
Nugget is a very small toy parti colored female poodle puppy. She will be up for adoption soon. Cute as a bug. Please call.
Back-Pack was abandoned in an apartment complex today. Poodle Rescue responded to the landlord’s phone call by picking the dog up within an hour of the call. Although Back-Pack is not a full bred poodle we accepted him into our program on an urgent need basis. Blood test revealed that Back-Pack is heartworm positive. He will be fully treated, neutered and available for adoption ASAP
Jaz and Jan These are before and after pictures of Jaz and Jan within 16 hours of rescue. They were 2 strays rescued in the Rice Village area. One of the area resident called on Poodle Rescue after her neighbor was able to help her herd the two neglected poodles into her yard. PRH responded to her urgent call within an hour. The residents in the community were so impressed and thankful for our quick response that they put the story on their Facebook page.

Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows
Thanks for all of you that visited and volunteered at our booth at this dog show. It was a great success for Poodle Rescue of Houston. Along with breed judging and obedience, there were agility dogs racing over obstacle courses, flyball teams hurdling to beat the clock, and four-footed athletes catching Frisbees and dancing to music. Fun for all!
This is the story of Max who needs a wheel cart to run around in and was shown on Inside Edition. Max was in the front yard for a potty break. The owner found him like this when she went to retrieve him. Honestly nobody knows what happened to Max. He might of just slipped a disk or maybe a car or kid injured him. We will never know.
The owner contacted me because she had no money or even a car. I told her to bum a ride to the area veterinarian clinic for drop off. I informed her that she would have to sign a faxed over waiver and release form to our organization. She did. That's how we acquired Mr. Max. The Happy Tails ending is that Max has found his way to a forever home in California. With your support and help we transported Max to his new home where he lives with his new Mom and a buddy. We will miss him at Poodle Rescue because he always was a happy soul.
Muneca the Beautiful Poodle from Old Mexico. Muneca was spayed and vetted by a rescue group called ''Save A Mexican Mutt" She was transported to Houstonall the way from Mexico. I think it is a Wonderful Organization. She still has her puppy teeth so we think she is about six months old.
22 New Mixes
These poodles and poodle mixes were acquired from an overstocked breeder. Sales have been slow due to the economy. We negotiated with the breeder to bring home 22. They seem social and appear very healthy. We just drove in last night. These pictures were taken early this morning. When they have settled into their new quarters and are groomed they will be absolutely gorgeous. Dr. Cordon will begin spaying and neutering them on Monday.
Sometimes when pups are not sold early they grow into young large teenagers making them less desirable to puppy buyers. The breeder was organized and wonderful to work with
Poodle Rescue of Houston Awarded Grant for Vaccines
TUSCON, February 23, 2011 – Poodle Rescue of Houston now has help in protecting dogs against canine influenza virus (CIV), a contagious disease that spreads from dog to dog, especially those in close proximity. The shelter received a grant for the vaccines as part of a Petfinder.com Foundation program to build community immunity against this respiratory infection. The foundation partnered with the Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health to fund the grant.
Because CIV is relatively new, most dogs have not built up immunity to the disease. Dog flu is a growing problem throughout the U.S. The grant for Building Community Immunity seeks to protect all at-risk dogs in the community including those in close proximity with other dogs, as is the case with shelters and rescue facilities. It also provides greater assurance to adopting families that their new pets will be healthier and much less likely to be sick or get more serous infections. The Petfinder.com Foundation was created in 2003 to respond to needs of its Petfinder member shelters and rescue groups and to assist them in ensuring that no pet is euthanized for lack of a home. The vaccine grant will help keep dogs healthy and adoptable.
Ms. Gonzalez's Pre-Kindergarten class at Norma Garcia-Leza Elementary School in the Aldine ISD collected 100 cans of dog food as part of their celebration of the 100th day of school. They donated the food to Poodle Rescue of Houston to help feed our dogs while they're waiting to find their forever homes.
Bently, Ben, Buffy & Baby
These poodles were three of four that were taken in from Bay City Animal Shelter. Right now they are a matted mess. However they are all as friendly and happy as any little dog could be. These little one are an owner surrender and there was no where for them to go at the time but to the local shelter. They were transferred to Poodle Rescue on Tuesday Jan. 18th. We named them Bently, Ben, Buffy & Baby.
