The Poodle Rescue of Houston has successfully rescued and placed in adopting homes many deserving poodles over the years. We are very proud to tell their stories. We could not make these rescue efforts without the love, kindness and continual support of our patrons. Thanks for all your help!

Greetings!
We adopted SD-13 one week ago. We have changed his name to Jeff Bagwell and we call him "Bags.". He is rather shy and he did not bark for the first 3 days. He is learning to walk on a leash and is getting better with house training. His Vet said he is very healthy but underweight (4 1/2 lbs). He suggested a sweater for him since he doesn't have much meat on his bones. Bags is very lovable and is perfectly happy sitting in my lap all day and is starting to play with all of his toys.
I am so happy to have found Poodle Rescue of Houston. We now have a GREAT new addition to our family!
Take care,
Lennel |

Hi Poodle Rescue from Bailey’s Mother!
I have been around dogs my whole life but I have honestly never met a sweeter, more affectionate dog, or a dog that wants to be around her family more. We LOVE her.
Bailey loves going places and we love taking her. She has been to the beach, shopping at Petsmart, to a fundraising walk, and even to see Santa. Every week we take them to the dog park which was stressful for Bailey at first but she does great now. She does great off leash. I’m growing out her coat a little and she looks so pretty with her less common coloring. Anytime anyone asks about her I tell them that I adopted her and about rescue and Poodle Rescue of Houston in particular.
Thank you so much for the work you do. I never would have found the best dog ever if you hadn’t kept her safe and sound. She was found matted, skinny, and with heartworms on the street with no future. Now Bailey has brightened everyone’s life here at the Iovine house. I’d like to think we are giving her the best life possible but I will keep on trying just in case. Allison |

Update on Jane
I wanted to send you an update on the dog we rescued from you 2 years ago on 12/23/09. She was one of the 15 poodles treated badly and she was very unsocialized. She is doing great. She plays with toys now, sits in our lap and is great with our son. We love her dearly. We rescued another small poodle mix from our shelter last year. I try to rescue as many local poodles as I can and place them and I love getting updates. The little one and June love to play and she is still very attached to our oldest rescue standard. Thanks again. Good luck to all your rescues this year for a forever home.

Nebbia and Mali-Ahh, the Good
Life!
Here's are latest happy tail all the way from Canada.
It's my understanding that this couple adopted the white standard from us a few years back. Then they moved to Canada and Mali the black standard on our website. He's was very under weight at the time. After conversations back and forth they adopted him sight unseen on November 15, 2010 and had him transported to Canada. Gibbs/Mali is quite a bit smaller than Nebbia and I think that was a concern for them at first, but as you can see by the photos they are the best of buddies and GIbbs/Mali has adjusted to a radically different climate than the one he knew before. Ahh, the good life!

Happy Holidays from Nebbia and Mali
Hope this email finds Poodle Rescue of Houston well. Here are a couple of photos of our two boys, Nebbia and Mali (aka Marlett and Gibbs), enjoying the summer in the mountains (our favorite activity). As you can imagine, they are best buddies, inseparable, beautiful, and amazing. We are so happy to have them in our lives. Happy holidays. Gian, Ivana, Nebbia and Mali.

Just a quick not to tell you we adopted Dapper Dean on Aug 14th for my birthday. We can not tell you enough what a wonderful member of our family he is there was not much of a adjustment period as he was as grateful to be in our home as we were to have him join us.
I hope that other people will follow our good luck and give these little pups a home and be pleasantly pleased with the love that you get back.
We are crazy about him. He dose like to Jump so his new name is Jack as in Jack in the box

Sable
I wanted to send you a picture of Sable (formerly Dixie). I rescued her two years ago in December and I have enjoyed her so much. I had another poodle for 5 years but lost him on December 8 two years ago to kidney failure and thought I could never love another dog but Sable proved me wrong. Thanks so much for rescuing dogs that would otherwise be put down.

Myra Writes Us a Letter
I'm happy in my new home. My owners are very loving and they give me lots of treats. I go for walks twice a day and get to walk around a lake. They got me a pink collar with rhinestones an a pink leash for when we go on our outings. They pet me alot and rub my belly whenever I want. Life is good! Here are two pictures with my new owners. Thought you'd enjoy. Thanks for taking care of me and finding me a new home!
Love, Myra |

Dear Guinnette,
Last Saturday, Louise, Pogo, and I took Blanche (who used to be called Roxanne at the Poodle Rescue of Houston) to her new home with us, and I want to send you a couple of photos of her setting in at her new home.
She has a very sweet and loving personality, and she follows us everywhere. She even treats Pogo very nicely.

Hello,
We adopted "Leah" back in March, and I wanted to send you a picture. We changed her name to Sadie, which she has learned and responded to very well, and she has been just the best addition to our family. Sadie has grown very comfortable in our home. She is very affectionate and playful! We are very happy that we made the decision to adopt her.
Thanks,
Julie and Kim

Hi to Everybody!
I just wanted to send you guys an update on Sienna (now called Bailey) the minature brown poodle I adopted from Poodle Rescue of Houston one month ago. She is doing great. She seems to have completely recovered from her heartworms and is healthy as can be. She has tons of energy and she loves to play with toys and run with the kids. I can't wait till it is cooler and we can take her more places than just our weekly visit to the dog park. At first she wasn't very nice to our senior dog Jack B but once she learned not to be afraid they started to calmly coexist. They chase each other in the backyard and sometimes I even catch them snuggling on the couch. The cats were never afraid of her and she ignores them which suits them just fine. The kids LOVE her. She loves to cuddle and gets lots of attention all the time. We took her to the groomer last week and they said she did great...except she hates getting poodle feet. From now on they will have to scissor them instead
I first met Sienna (Bailey) at Sugarland Animal Control so I didn't have as much contact with all of you at Poodle Rescue of Houston. Every interaction I did have with you was pleasant and professional. Thank you for the work that you do. It isn't easy and I know you are always underfunded and unappreciated.
I am attaching a couple of pictures. Thank you for helping Sienna (Bailey) find her forever home. I don't know what we ever did without her.
Warmly,
Allison

Hi,
I hope all is well at the Poodle Rescue. Holland, aka Leroy, is growing like a bean and is so smart! I never realized how many people love poodles - everyone who sees him wants to pet him. It's funny, but ever since I got him, I've finally met my neighbors while walking him.He is very relaxed and loving. We have been bell training him so that he can ring a bell by the door when he needs to potty. He's picked it up pretty quickly, and nudges the bells or stands by the door to go out. Unfortunately, one of our cats picked up on the bell training as well and now rings it like there's no tomorrow to go outside! Leroy is absolutely fabulous with his kitty siblings. He is going to grow up to be an awesome dog. I can't thank Poodle Rescue enough for bringing him to me! I've attached some photos for you. Leroy's kitty siblings!
Thank you and best regards,

Hello Poodle Rescue,
I just wanted to let you know that the poodle we adopted from you a year and a half ago, Curly, is doing great! He is completely at home with his brother, Mojo, and is living the life meant for a poodle. We run, play, go on walks, eat good and have regular check-ups. Mojo and Curly have become such good friends that they don’t do anything without the other. We have even gotten their vet visits coordinated. My wife, Kristi, and I feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful dog. He is better than we could have hoped for. I hope he feels the same about us. Thank you for all you do for these wonderful dogs. I hope they all find people to love them as much as we love Curly.
Here is a picture of both of them after a haircut. Curly is the one on the right.

I adopted Bryce (renamed Dandy) last June at Poodle Rescue of Houston. He had his picture made the last week of January and thought you might like to see him. Is he the cutest dog in the world or what?!
Patti
It's apparent that you found a great match with Dandy and that both of your lives have been enriched. That was our goal. Once again, it was good hearing from you and thanks for the photos. Please keep in touch.
Best Regards,

Hello there,
We just wanted to give you an update on Buster! He is doing great!! He's adjusted really well to his new home and has been such a joy to us already! We changed his name to Woody…named afspangles
ter our favorite football player, Danny Woodhead (New England Patriots, Running Back). Woodhead is short, stocky, fast, and very coordinated…all qualities that our Woody has as well! Woody already recognizes his new name, so it much be a good match!
Woody loves playing fetch in the backyard, but his favorite toy is a stuffed turtle that he carries around the house with him! He loves to follow us around and we love having him here! We've taken Woody to the park and on a few walks, and we are overly impressed with how well-behaived he is! He is wonderful around other dogs and great with kids!
We are so glad to have Woody as part of our family!! He is the perfect dog and we couldn't be happier! We've attached four pictures of Woody in his new home.
Thanks for all your help…and for rescuing Woody!

Cinderella, Boo Boo Bunny and Rowley (formerly Spike-a-doo) having a tea party.
Hi All at Houston Poodle Rescue!
I have a quick moment and wanted to give you an update on our
wonderful dog, Rowley, that we adopted from y'all at the end of
September, you know him as Spike-a-doo, of course.
After the first few days (which were admittedly bumpy - especially
because of the E-collar), he adjusted very quickly to become a very
important part of our family. The kids and Rowley bonded by the end
of the week. Our three year old, who was most terrified of him at
first, started taking Rowley out in the sunroom alone, shutting the
door and insisting that we leave her and Rowley alone so that she
could serve him pretend tea, cookies and pizza.
Jory, our six year old, adores Rowley too. We named him after the
character who is Greg's best (big, goofy) friend in "The Diary of a
Wimpy Kid" book series. He has become Jory's best (big, goofy)
friend. Rowley sleeps in Jory's room every night.
Rowley is a dream come true and a we feel so grateful to have him. We
hope that this note brings you joy and satisfaction in the important
work you do.

My husband John and I adopted Ibiss (who has been renamed Elmo) on Dec.19th. She has made a remarkable transition into the family and has won over everyone she has come in contact with. She has become quite the boat dog, spending weekends with us on our sailboat. I have attached a photo of her on the boat, wearing her life jacket. She is a joy to have around. Thank you all for the wonderful work you do.
BTW - If you're wondering about the name, St. Elmo is the patron saint of sailors, and the name just seemed to suit her. She has already learned the new name, and seems quite pleased with it.

I wanted to share a picture of our dog June. Her name was Amanda and we got her in Dec 2009. She was with 15 other poodles and unsocialized. With lots of work and time she has come a long way.
She is a happy girl and very loved. I am a board member of a local rescue group and I know how much follow up means. We just rescued a small poodle mix from a local shelter and she loves to play with her and the others. This pic was taken today. Thanks for what you do.

BEAU FINDS A LOVING HOME
Just a quick note to let you all know that Beau (Devon) is doing great, in fact, it feels like he’s always been a part of our family! He is truly the cuddliest dog I’ve ever met. I work from home and he has a bed under my desk, but most of the time he’s in my lap while I’m working!
We are beginning to see the playful side of him. I’ve discovered he loves tiny tennis balls and anything that squeaks. And he can be a little mischievous. It is so exciting to see his personality coming out as he begins to trust us.
It breaks my heart to think that he is five years old and may never have had anyone who loves him the way I do. Thank you so much for all you do for these sweet dogs.

Kylie (Formerly Dainty)
I just wanted to share some photos we took of Kylie (formerly Dainty) this weekend when we delivered her to our daughter in San Marcos. We took the photos to use in our Christmas cards this year. Kylie and Lindsey are bonding very well. Kylie is enjoying her new home very much and has done remarkable in our opinion for the last 5 days that we’ve had her.
On Thursday last week, we took Kylie into our vet, Barry Schmitt, and he has known Guinnette forever! We’ve also been friends with Barry for over 10 years now. Our sons played baseball together and he took great care of our Maggie. It is truly a small world!
Kylie had a wonderful trip up to San Marcos and pretty much slept the whole way! She is learning to adjust to the cool weather up there, but has several sweaters already to help keep her warm. Lindsey already has a stocking for her and is loving every minute of being a pet mom! She is trying to teach Kylie how to “play” with her toys, enjoying cuddling with her , and most of all making her feel loved.
Thanks for taking Kylie in and allowing us to find her. We are excited to be able to have her as a part of our family.

Rider
I took some pics last week of Rider after he got groomed to send you. I will send them to you in the next few days. I knew after the first time I met him that there was a special bond between me and him. It was definitely worth waiting on his health to improve to adopt him instead of someone else. I took him to my vet to get a check up and his heart preventative and they could not believe how sweet he was and he is in good health right now. In the next few weeks we are starting to work with him on becoming a therapy dog. I will keep you posted if it works out.
I want to thank poodle rescue for your hard work. If it was not for people like you dogs like Rider would not have had a chance at life or finding a new home. He is truly a blessing.

KENAN WAS ONE OF OUR RESCUE POODLES FROM A HORRIBLE PUPPY MILL
Congratulations once again on your adoption of Kenan.
The before photo of Kenan that we took last July the morning after we rescued him and 26 others from an out-of-state puppy mill. What a difference you are making in this little dog's life! Please keep in touch from time to time and let us know how things are going.

CUPID IS HAPPY
Thank you so much for the great photos and the update on Carter (Cupid). I'm going to forward them to the other staff and volunteers because I know they will be as pleased as I am to learn that the dog we knew as "Cupid" is doing so well. It is very reassuring to know that you are taking such good care of him and that he is receiving the medical attention he needs.
From what you have described in your message, it sounds as though Carter is not bothered much by his respiratory infection and I'm hoping that it will soon be behind him. He sounds like a very happy dog and you should be proud that you have made such a big difference in his life. Thank you very much for keeping us posted and please stop for a visit if you're ever in our area.
Best Regards, Karl, Volunteer with Poodle rescue

Quincy's Letter From Michigan
Aren't I the cutest Standard poodle puppy you've ever seen?!
I look especially handsome 'cause I was at the groomer today - the groomer said I was into everything. See what she gave me - this cool toy and the special fall colors scarf I'm wearing.
Love, Quincy
Thanks to Lynn Babcock for flying in from Michigan and adopting Quincy, one of the puppies from the litter we had this summer. Quincy seems really cozy!

Dear Friends at Poodle Rescue,

Thank you for your undying love for poodles and for being so willing to give of yourself to care for these precious babies who are neglected and hurt!

DAISY DOODLE AND GRACE
Karen2 was rescued on July 24, 2009, along with twenty-five
other poodles, from deplorable conditions in an out-of-state puppy
mill. The rescue was conducted by Poodle Rescue of Houston with the
outstanding initiative and assistance of three local humane and rescue
groups. Karen was found to be suffering from malnutrition, mange,
internal and external parasites, eye infection and ear infection.
During her rehabilitation at Poodle Rescue of Houston, she received
full veterinary care, plenty of clean food and water as well as lots
of human attention and affection. At the time of her adoption on
September 13, 2009, she was living with three adult standard poodles,
two adult toy poodles and five standard poodle puppies in the home of
PRH Director Guinnette Peebles and her husband Ronnie. Thanks to her
new owner, a wonderful poodle lover named Peggy, Karen 2 (AKA Daisy
Doodle Poodle) will now live out her life in the atmosphere of
comfort, dignity and human affection that has thus far eluded her.

DIVA
Just to confirm, all is on track on the Houston end. I will be picking up Diva today and she will spend the night with me tonight. She will have a crate, blankets, food, all her records and any medicines she might be taking. I will leave home early tomorrow morning and plan to meet Tara no later than 9:30AM CDT just west of Lafayette in a little town called Rayne. Tara and I have spoken by phone and we will be in cell phone contact tomorrow. I plan to call her when I get to Lake Charles (probably around 8:30) and that will give Tara plenty of time to get to our meeting place.
Thanks again to everyone involved in this adoption and transport and to you for coordinating it.

SCHATZI & ROCCO
My family adopted a poodle last week from your center you called "May". I know you must get attached to each and every dog in the rescue center so I just wanted to give you an update on how she is doing. May's new name is Schatzi, which means "sweetie" in German. All she wants is to be loved and is the most mild mannered, well behaved dog I've ever met. She gets along great with the other dogs in the neighborhood and with our cat.
My friend's dog is a schnoodle named Rocco and is Schatzi's new best friend. We wanted to thank you for taking our new baby in and caring for her until we were able to find her.
I've attached a picture of Schatzi and Rocco for you. Enjoy.
Thank you again,

STRYDER
Hi! I'm sending some pictures and an update on Stryder, who my daughter and I adopted this past Monday. Let me first say that we LOVE him like crazy and he is such a doll!! Any concerns I had about his getting along with Bob, the Daschund , have completely vanished. The two of them are constantly at my feet and sharing them well at that ;-). He is amazing with the kids, who most enjoy playing ball and taking evening walks with him. He loves his walks, I think it's his time to show off! Yesterday he went to the groomer and he's just SO handsome. I could tell how good he felt to be pampered.
Thank you so much Guinnette for giving me the opportunity to have this amazing boy in our lives! He has brought much happiness to us all even in this short time. I will keep you updated and send a picture of the whole family soon. |
